Gosh how time flies...
My last post was about the talent changes and the new talent tiers in Mists. I also remember going crazy over those tamable crane birds and feeling slightly confused with having playable pandas in the game, although also fascinated, because you have this panda monk pet in the game and I figured this would cause some weird kind of alternate reality vortex where you have the ´old´ model on one hand and then a sparkly new panda model on the other, and how weird that would be. Except that we also have the old model worgen pets in the game and new playable worgen... but anyway, I have found myself wanting to write again, especially since there is a ton of information coming out about WoD.

So, hope to see you on my new blog. I am keeping this one in the air for laughs and giggles, but if you want to follow my more recent adventures or like to join in to all things hunter, I hope to see you on zaphirethehunter.blogspot.com!

Layout of the new talent system with 6 tiers

How it works: In the new system, you have a choice of one talent per tier. Each tier has a mixture of abilties useful for PvE or PvP, or in some cases both. As talents are no longer part of a spec, everyone gets to choose from the same talents, no matter what spec they are.

Every 15 levels, another tier opens up. Each tier seems to be centered around a theme: moving around, cc-ing, self-heal and survivability, burst damage, finishing moves and AoE. Here is an overview of the new talents:

At level 15, The talents seem to focus on three forms of Disengage:

Posthaste: Your Disengage frees you from all movement impairing effects and increases your movement speed by 60% for 8 sec.

Narrow Escape: When you Disengage, you also activate a web trap which encases all targets within 8 yards in sticky webs, preventing movement for 8 sec.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Chimera: Reduces the cooldown of Disengage by 10 sec, and the cooldown of Deterrence by 60 sec.

At level 30, the theme is ccing:

Silencing Shot: A shot that silences the target and interrupts spellcasting for 3 sec.

Wyvern Sting: A stinging shot that puts the target to sleep for 30 secs. Any damage will cancel the effect. When the target wakes up, the sting causes 2,730 Nature Damage over 6 sec.

Binding Shot: You fire a magical projectile, tethering the enemy and any other enemies within 5 yards of the landing arrow for 10 sec. If targets move 5 yards from the arrow they are stunned for 5 sec sec (3 sec PvP) and will be immune to the effects of Binding Shot for 10 sec.

At level 45, it's all about self-heal and survivability:

Exhilaration: Two minute cooldown. Instantly heals you for 30% and your pet for 100% of total health.

Aspect of the Iron Hawk: The Hunter takes on the aspects of an iron hawk, increasing ranged attack power by 10%, and reducing all damage taken by 15%. Only one Aspect can be active at a time. Replaces Aspect of the Hawk.

Spirit Bond: While your pet is active, you and your pet will regenerate 2% of total health every 2 sec.

At level 60, all about burst and bonus damage:

Fervor: Instantly restores 50 Focus to you and your pet and an additional 50 Focus over 10 sec.

Readiness: When activated, this ability immediately finishes the cooldown on all Hunter abilities with a base cooldown less than 6 minutes. Previously the domain of MM hunters, now BM and SV hunters get to have a second burst as well.

Thrill of the Hunt: You have a 15% chance when you fire a ranged attack that costs Focus and Kill Command to cause your next ranged attack that costs Focus or Kill Command to be free.

At level 75, the common theme seems to be finishing moves:

A Murder of Crows Summons a flock of crows to attack your target over the next 30 sec. If used on a target below 20% health, the cooldown is reduced to 60 seconds.

Dire Beast. Summons a powerful wild animal to assist you in combat for 15 sec. Each time the animal deals damage, you will gain 5 focus.

Lynx Rush Instant, 100 yard range, 1.5 min cooldown. Your pet rapidly charges from target to target, attacking 9 times over 4 sec, dealing its normal attack damage to each target. The pet must be within 10 yards of the target to Lynx Rush.

At level 90 has new powerful AoE abilities:

Glaive Toss 20 Focus. You hurl two glaives toward a target, each dealing 110 to 327 damage to each enemy struck and reducing movement speed by 30% for 3 sec. The primary target will take 8 times as much damage from each strike. The Glaives will return back to you, damaging and snaring targets again as they return.

Powershot: You wind up a powerful shot, which deals 400% weapon damage to the target and 100% weapon damage to all enemies in between you and the target. Enemies hit by Powershot are also knocked back.

Barrage: Rapidly fire a spray of shots forward for 3 sec, dealing a total of 320% weapon damage to the enemy target and an average of 80% weapon damage to each other enemy target in front of you.

I like how every tier is sort of centered around an important aspect/ facet of being a hunter, and it is nice that you can decide out of three in what way you want to do it. This makes it easy to really customize your talents according to your own play style and needs. It's very tempting to start theorycrafting about what talents are the most viable and which ones are not very useful, but as we are still in the Beta phase, everything can still be changed.

Are you excited about the new talents? Which ones are "no-brainers" for you?
Zaphirehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14891018290192754318noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3241375976945796858.post-65489885926984243282012-07-08T01:16:00.000+02:002012-07-17T11:09:38.412+02:00Things Cataclysm broughtPatch 5.0 is soon on the PTR, which means that Mists of Pandaria is fast approaching, which also means that it is almost time to bid Cataclysm farewell.

Bye bye Deathwing

A lot of gamers seem to have been a bit lukewarm about this expansion. It was fun while it lasted, but it wasn't that epic or challenging or memorable, say a lot of players. Content-wise, I think so too. I never really got into the Deathwing-story. I missed some kind of common theme in this expansion, like there was in Wrath. At the same time, Cataclysm has brought a ton of things I now can't do without:

- Flying in Azeroth: Remember flying the first time on your own mount over Azeroth? It was so cool! When Cata hit, I was level 78 or thereabouts, and I was so jaleous of all those people who could buy their Azeroth flying. I power-levelled like crazy and was incredibly happy when I could finally purchase that flying license. I spent over two hours flying all over Azeroth and being all squeaky and excited over all the different zones and being able to see it all from above. Awesome.
- Transmogrification: Okay, so this is one of the more recent changes in the game, but it´s still something Cata brought! I am a huuuuuuuge fan of Transmogrification. It´s such an intergral part of my gaming now I can't even remember ever having done without it. I totally spend many hours running old instances assembling outfits, stalking other hunters for inspiration and being a total girl. Love it.
- No more ammo: Back in Wrath, when I was playing as mage, I made a Draenei hunter alt out of curiosity of hunters. I didn't really play her past level 10, but I remember that back then, a hunter used ammo to shoot. Remember that? By the time I got to level 3, I had run out of arrows? bullets? and I didn't know where to get new ones, so I ended up going like, 5 levels without a bow... I am glad that in Cata the ammo system was thrown out the window and we no longer had to buy friggin ammo to just be able to shoot.
- The dungeon system: It used to take ages spamming trade to find a decent group, and, at least on my server, if you didn't have the achievement, it was pretty darn hard getting in anywhere. Sure, the queues are annoying and it's easy for people to just go "Screw that, I'm gone" and fake a dc etc, but meh, at least it's become easier to find a group. Edit: The dungeon finder came out in WOTLK! My memory fails me sometimes...

On a more personal note:

- Being part of a raid group for the first time: I became part of my old guild a little after the Cata launch. It was my first proper guild - I'd been an officer two years before that but I hadn't really been used to being in a social guild again. A month or two after I joined, a hunter spot opened up in the main raid group. I applied for it and got in. It was so much fun - we tried to do Blackwing Descent, and later Bastion of Twilight. We weren't really great or professional but we had a lot of fun and it was just a very tight-knit group. We raided with some intermissions - sometimes real life got in the way, but we did manage to steamroll through Firelands both normal and heroic, and afterwards Dragon Soul. Eventhough I am no longer in the raid group or the guild, I still have fond memories of those raiding days. Cataclysm was the first expansion in which I really learned to be a hunter and raider.
- Doing achievements I never got to do on my mage: I raided Ulduar on my mage, but I never got to finish it because my guild broke up and I left the game shortly after that. So when I got to go Ulduar on my hunter again, I was incredibly pleased to be able to do the whole thing and finally see what the whole raid was about. It also got me my first dragon mount on June.
- Hunting Spirit Beasts: Gosh, the amount of time I spent camping those spirit beasts... of course spirit beasts aren't new to this expansion, but it was in Cata that I actively sought them out. Loque'nahak in particular was incredibly hard to get. I looked for him for days, and was so happy when I finally found him!
- Getting Time-Lost Protodrake on June: I was flying around Storm Peaks one afternoon - probably looking for Skoll - when I saw a dragon flying past me and my npc scan started to go crazy. I typed to my guildies whether anybody was interested in killing a rare dragon since I wasn't that bothered - I did not know about the existence of Time-Lost, or that it dropped a mount until my guildies told me. Bby then I was halfway to Sholazar. When I got back I couldn't find him initially - the nerves were driving me crazy - but after flying around a little, he eventually re-appeared. He still is my go-to mount.
- Ultimate Battleground with my guildies: My guild did this thing called Ultimate Battleground during the 5th anniversary guild celebrations which was basically a fight to the death in the arena in Blade's Edge with almost everyone from the guild fighting eachother all at the same time. I died quite quickly, but two of my guildies, a frostmage and a feral druid, fought it out for over an hour. It was epic. It was also pretty sweet that one of the GM's messaged our Guild Master that he was watching.

I am probably missing out a ton of other things, but those are the ones that come to mind at the moment ;-)

Will I miss Cata? Probably not. Cata has been fun while it lasted, but content wise, I am ready for something new.

This post has been inspired by this article from WoW Insider. This set has got a bit of a Beaststalker/Giantstalker vibe going on, no?

I don't know which one I like more though, the Tier 14 one or this one - I guess you can't really beat a wolfshead on a shoulder but then again the Tier 14 shoulders were pretty neat too.

This is what it looks like:

Not too bad eh? I have to say, the set does look like it belongs in Northrend rather than Pandaria, but that's okay. I love the skull on the shoulderpad. The only thing I'm a little meh about are the colours. Hunter tiers tend to come in either some shade of brown or grey-blue - and it's getting ooollld. I wish they'd use more interesting colours, like this set.

Also, I'm pretty sure I saw some images of a different looking hunter set that looked absolutely amazing on MMO-Champion a few months ago - it had this Chinese Imperial archer Mulan look to it- but it was only a speculated look for Challenge Mode set, and I fear it might have been changed in the meantime (unless they do implement it, in which case I'll be a happy June!). Here's a picture:
In this post,I'll cover levels 15-30, and we'll look at PvP / PvE, spells, where to quest and keybinds. For part 1, click here.

While levels 15-30 are often considered unmemorable rookie levels, I think they're great. You finally get to do battlegrounds, dungeons open up and after having to run everywhere you finally get a mount. So what's in store for first time hunters?

PvP
At level ten, you're able to go into battlegrounds. Not only do battlegrounds give you great XP, they also give you pretty good practice to think fast and mess with your spells to see well, what they do against an opponent slightly stronger than Hogger. As a hunter, you'll do pretty good damage. At the same time, you're pretty squishy too. The trick is to always try to keep your distance, but as warriors and the like have nasty charges, you can't always prevent them from getting all up in your grill. Luckily, hunters get a few spells/abilities for greater survivability rather early in the game, which compensates for your squishy-ness a little:

- Disengage. Available at level 14, this spell makes you leap away from your oponent. It has a cooldown however, and you need to be in combat in order to use it.
- Scatter Shot. Available at level 16. Scatter Shot will be one of your favorites in the battleground. Your opponent loses control of him/herself for a few seconds, giving you time to get away.
- Wing Clip. I'm not suggesting you should run up to the enemy just to Wing Clip them, but when they get all close, at least you get to slow them for 50%. Available at level 12.
- Concussive Shot. Like Wing Clip, it slows the target for 50%.
- Immolation Trap. Traps are your best friend in battlegrounds. This trap burns the first enemy that approaches you. You can put it on capping flags like the ones in Arathi Basin for example, or just throw it under someone's feet. Available at level 22.
- Freezing Trap. This trap becomes available a little later, at level 28, but will probably be one of your go-to traps in PvP. Any oponent that runs into this traps gets stuck in a block of ice, unable to move for a few seconds. One of the tricks I've learned to lure someone into walking into your icey trap, is to Scatter Shot them and then throwing a Freezing Trap right under their feet. Since they lose control over themselves, they can't really dodge your trap that easily.

When it comes to moving around, it is generally suggested that you shouldn't do any "keyboard turning", meaning, that you dont use the arrows to turn left or right. When moving, try to turn with your mouse, while running forward by either keeping the two buttons on your mouse pressed in, or by using the "W" key (the standard key for moving forwards). Another important part of moving through a battlefield in aan easy way is by doing something called strafing. These are keys on your keyboard that make your character move left or right with turning being done by mouse. This is great for running and shooting at the same time - which you will be able to do at a later stage when you have Aspect of the Fox - but is also great for lower level battlegrounds as it gives you a bit more control over your character's movement.

With every oponent that you kill or battlegrounds you win, you get awarded honor points. You can trade these points for gear or other supplies like flasks and gems. Some people like to trade them in as soon as they have the right amount together for a piece of gear - others like to save them up for when they reach 85 - since you'll be doing so much levelling anyway, you'll grow out of your low level PvP gear pretty soon - unless you will want to level through PvP only, I'd say you're better to save them up until you've reached level 85.

PvE
If PvP isn't really your thing, you can try your hand at dungeons at level 15. In PvE, your role as a hunter is simple. You are there for ranged damage and for ccing whatever enemies need to be cced to keep some of the pressure off your tank
As we hunters are naturally awesome even in the lower levels, we tend to sometimes be a little too awesome for the rest of our party (too powerful). Often this results in a hunter over-aggroing enemies. Since the other classes are naturally jaleous of our good looks, a fail can easily be blamed on you. So what to do? First and foremost, limiting your threat is the most important thing. You can do this by:

- Turning off "Growl" on your pets action bar.
- Put your pet on assist, or if your party is dodging/avoiding trash packs, dismiss your pet altogether for a second so it doesn't accidentally pull any mobs.
- Waiting a few seconds before shooting the target your tank is attacking. This way the tank can build up his threat without running the risk of losing it to your awesomeness.
- Wait with going "all out" (using your hardest hitting spells) on your target a few seconds into an encounter. You're less likely to pull stuff that way.
- Also, ease a little on the Multi-Shot. It's great for doing damage to packs of mobs, but it also increases your threat, so unless your tank has got them all under control, you might wanto to stick to single-target shots first.

Where to Quest
With so many options as how to level, there are similarly more than one place you can level up past level 15. While Heroes Call can give you a good idea of where to level next (they are usually pretty easy to reach by flight points), here are some of my favorite levelling areas for levels 15-30. for Alliance:

Levels 10-17: Westfall
Westfall got a make over in Cata and they've done a pretty nice job with the overhaul. In this story, you get to examine the murders of two farmers, NCIS style, that leads you to the workings of a mysterious underground gang, as well as discovering a completely different side of the Stormwind regime.

Levels 15-20: Redridge Mountains / Loch Modan
For me, Redridge has mainly served as a bridge between the level 17-20 gap, and while I didn't think it was the best of areas, it has got some interesting storylines and funny bits of humor that can see you through to level 20. If you're more into dwarves, you can go to Loch Modan, which has a lot of those: kill 20 of this and 15 of those kind of quests but will take you up to 20 quite easily. Plus that Loch Modan is home to some awesome rare beasts, like the blue fox Ashtail!

Levels 20-25: Duskwood
If you like the gothic, eerie feel of Gilneas, you will love Duskwood. Mystery and magic are the themes of Duskwood, plus at its heart an interesting and spooky tale of lost love and black magic.

Levels 25-30: Northern Stranglethorn / Southern Barrens
The jungle of Stranglethorn has long been one of ny favorite levelling zones. Maybe I'm just really partial to any questline that features Hemet Nesingwary, but his questline alone makes it a must-do for any hunter. For those of you interested in Alliance lore, go to Southern Barrens - especially if you also have a Horde character levelling up in the same place.

For Horde, I loved:

Levels 10-20: Azshara / Northern Barrens
I came into Azshara pretty late, but I have to say it's been one of my favorite levelling areas for the Horde. If you like the whole Goblin story, Azshara is certainly a must do. As for the Northern Barrens, while the questline starts a bit slow, I absolutely loved it once I got into the story. It sets the precedence for the storyline in the Southern Barrens and the struggle between Alliance and Horde. If you like Warcraft lore and Taurens, the Northern Barrens are a pretty good place to go.

Levels 20-25: Hillsbrad Foothills
Now we come to my most favorite levelling zone ever. I just didn't want to leave the place. Hillsbrad Foothills made me laugh so many times - it's a mixture of brilliant humor combined with serious Alliance vs Horde lore. Loved it.

Levels 25-30: Southern Barrens
The Southern Barrens tell the story of the struggle between Alliance and Horde, with the emphasis on the struggles of the Tauren race. Besides this being a great place to level for Horde players, I loved levelling both my Alliance and Horde character here - just to see both sides. As Alliance, you get to feel like the Horde are nothing but uncivilized savages that brutally kill anything that resembles Alliance. As Horde, you get to see how brutal the Alliance has been towards the innocent Tauren. On both sides, you really get to root for your own side, as well as knowing the two stories, which is something I think is really awesome.

Keybinds
When it comes to keybinds, it pretty much all comes down to your own preferences and play style. Changing your keybinds to a custom "template" can greatly improve your gaming. Some people love the standard Blizzard keybinds. Others, not so much.

What are keybinds exactly? They are pretty much where your spells and other abilities are located on your keyboard. If you go into Escape -> Keybinds, you get to see the list of number of spells and abilities and what key they are bound to, like Jump being bound to the Spacebar, "W" for moving forward and so on. You can change those spells by simply binding them to any other key you press in the box.

I changed my keybindings pretty late, until I was well into my level eighties - but ever since I've changed where my spells are on my keyboard, I've never been able to play the standard settings again.

This isn't really a hunter thing though, and if you have a main or an alt of another class you might use the template you like using for that other character, Just keep in mind that a hunter has a lot of instant shots so you might have to keybind slightly differently if you're not used to that.

In the standard setting, the main spells are built around number 1-0, with moving and jumping reserved for the lower situated keys on your keyboard. I have changed them around so that they are built around my left hand - leaving my right hand free to move with my mouse. My main spells are situated on the keys: 1-2-3-4, W-E-R-D-F, with A-S to strafe and Q to move forward. That's mainly because my hand is quite small and I want everything in my reach. Also, I've got a lot of spells I need bound to my keys and I don't have a gaming mouse - if you do you can bind spells to the additional keys on your mouse.

Playing around with what works best for you at a low level can be a great way of finding out what your playstyle is, what works for your set-up, etc. In the end, you can always go back to the standard settings if you don't like the changes you've made.

That's it for Part 2! In Part 3 we'll have a look at levels 30-58, a closer look at secondary hunter stats, UIs, where to quest past level 30 and the new spells and abilities and how to work them into your rotation - as you'll get a ton more spells in those levels. Anything you'd like to see covered?
This guide will be extremely basic, without much of the number-crunching stuff since my theorycrafting skills aren't that great - some things are much better left to the experts. ;-)

In this part, I'll try to cover some of the basics from levels 1-15: we'll take a look at what a hunter does, a basic hunter's rotation, talent specs, pets and hunter stats. So let's get started!

What does a hunter do besides shooting at things from a distance?
Hunters are primarily ranged DPS. We are also pretty good at crowd controlling, setting traps and snaring or silencing enemies.

Next to that, hunters provide awesome buffs for parties and raids from our spec and pets which we can easily switch around, depending on the situation. Also, hunters are naturally handsome and badass. It is general knowledge that:

"Hunters have smoldering good looks by nature, that reduces the opposite gender to a quivering pile of desire. Sometimes the same gender too. We just look that good. It’s a blessing and a curse, except not actually at all curse-like"

For more basic info on hunter stats, focus, hunter races and pets, this page covers a lot of the basics.

Shots and abilities in the first few levels

At level 1, you start out with Arcane Shot and your trusty pet. Arcane Shot will, for most of your levelling career, be one of the more hard hitting spells, but, as it costs 25 focus just to fire one - that's a quarter of your total focus - it is not an ability you will want to use endlessly. That's where Steady Shot, available at level 3, comes in. The shot doesn't do as much damage as Arcane Shot, and it has a cast time of 2 seconds, but each Steady Shot you cast restores 9 focus, making it an awesome "filler-shot" you'll want to use inbetween high damaging shots.

At a later stage, from level 15 upwards or so, you will want to mix up your Arcane Shots (and specialization-signature shots, depending on what spec you choose to play) with your Steadies, to keep your damage up while regenerating enough focus to cast your more fancy shots.

This is where we can see the beginning of a basic hunter rotation!

While there isn't really a strict shot-rotation every hunter should abide to - in the end, your rotation really depends on your spec, playstyle, whether you PvE or PvP, any fight mechanics and so on - a simple, basic PvE hunter rotation goes something like this:

Hunter's Mark: you only have to apply it once (available at level 14)
Serpent Sting (available at level 10)
Signature Shot
If you have enough focus, Arcane Shot
Steady Shot
Steady Shot
Signature Shot

Rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat.

You will always want to have Hunter's Mark up on your target, as it lasts pretty long (5 minutes) and increases your attack power (= more dps). The second shot you'll always want to use in your rotation is Serpent Sting. Serpent Sting is a DoT, a spell that ticks damage over time while you are firing off other shots. After that, your shooting priority are the spells that deal the most damage, usually followed by an Arcane Shot - if you have focus to spare. To restore focus, throw in a couple of Steady Shots - especially if you are Markmanship and have Improved Steady Shot talented, as it makes you shoot faster.

Talent Specializations
At level ten, you will get to choose to play either as Markmanship (MM), Survival (SV) or Beast Mastery (BM) - each with its own signature shot and special abilties.
What's the difference between the three?

Generally, as a BM hunter, you will have more spells to command your pet, like Kill Command and Intimidation. You also get to tame Exotic Beasts like Spirit Beasts.

A Survival hunter excels at AoE (Area of Effect, meaning, multiple targets) damage and building up its damage over time with DoTs (such as Serpent Sting or Explosive Shot).

A MM hunter is very good at bursting high damage through cooldowns, especially with the MM talent Readiness. The spec also relies more on physical (weapon) damage than DoTs or pet commands.

There isn't really a "good" or "bad" hunter levelling spec. I personally preferred levelling as BM as I've mainly levelled through questing (BM has some pretty awesome pet tanking abilities that work well for questing) but in the end it all comes down to your playstyle, the way you choose to level, etc. There are many hunter talentpoint guides out there but the main thing is to just go for talents you think are useful to the way you play, so if you mainly PvP you go for more survivability and so on.

Pets
Every pet belongs to one of the three pet talent trees, Ferocity, Cunning and Tenacity, each with its own special and unique abilities. As you level up, your pet gets talent points to help improve those abilities and to learn new ones.

The three pet specs are:

Ferocity: Ferocity pets are mainly specced for dealing damage and are usually used in raids and dungeons.

Cunning: Cunning pets have snare, stun and crowd-control abilities that are very useful for PvP and levelling. They also do pretty good damage.

Tenacity: Pets belonging to the tenacity tree are tanking pets - they do a lower amount of damage than Ferocity or Cunning pets, but are better at absorbing damage and reducing threat. Tenacity pets are great for soloing and questing.

At level ten, you get to tame most animals with Tame Beast (providing that they can be tamed and are not a higher level than you). You can cast Beast Lore to see if the creature you wish to tame can be tamed or not. I personally like going for a Ferocity pet in dungeons and raids, and a Tenacity pet for questing and soloing stuff.

Every beast has its own Special Ability that provide extra bonuses next to basic attacks and talented abilities. For a complete list of all Special Abilities, go here. For a list of all the pets in-game, go to this website.

Hunter stats
As a hunter, your main stat is Agility. Agility increases your damage and chance to crit. As you progress further into the game, you will also need secondary stats like hit, crit and haste - at a later stage will we look into stats and their importance - for now, in the lower levels it's the leather gear with agility you will want to have.

So far the first few basics. In the next part, we'll have a look at PvP, where to quest, and more. Any suggestions for the Beginner's Guide? Would you like to see specific things covered? Let me know!

Especially now that the newness of Cataclysm is long gone and there's little to do, it's refreshing to see things from the other side.

So, now that June is a Blood Elf, what have I learned?

1. I am not much of a quester, but since I've been levelling an alt on the Horde side, questing has become fun. Horde quests and lore seem much more humorous and interesting than the Alliance quests in Cataclysm.
2. I missed how boots look on characters. I've never really seen them since her hooves were always in the way.
3. Orgrimmar is a maze, but I do like it. Actually, Thunderbluff has become my next favorite city, eventhough that one is a maze, too.
4. Who is Gamon?
5. I constantly automatically go to Alliance bases and flightpaths. Old habits die hard!
6. On the same note, is it just me or are there more Alliance bases and settlements than horde ones?

Initially I was switching faction out of curiosity and a change of scene, but as it ends up, I really like the Horde. The Horde lore is very interesting. Any tips on must-do lore questing zones?Zaphirehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14891018290192754318noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3241375976945796858.post-32224611650710988652012-04-10T14:51:00.006+02:002012-07-05T20:07:30.345+02:00Minor Update #2My friend poked me the other day and said it was too long since I updated this place - and he's right. So much has happened in the past few weeks that it is hard to narrow them down in just one small update.

For one, I am no longer in my old guild. This is partially why I have been inactive for a while - I have been in one place and guild for such a long time it always takes some time to make decisions on what direction to go to next. The other is that I have ventured into the dark side and crossed over to the Horde! Although I love the Draenei and Alliance, I have recently found a new home on the Horde side of a different server. I have never been Horde before, and I have to say, I quite like seeing things from the other side! The only downsides to faction changing is the fact that some of the portals to Cata zones are missing, eventhough I've done the quests - and having to go for a re-name since "Juneper" was already taken on my new server (Any suggestions for names are welcome - I have changed my mind about her new name so many times...!)

I have also been excited about the Pandaren news coming out of all directions. I haven't been fortunate enough to participate in the beta myself, but I watched the Pandaren starting zone Livestream on WoW Insider, and judging from that, Pandaria looks gorgeous.

I certainly hope those crane birds will be tameable...

Anyway, it is good to be back. I should be posting new stuff pretty soon - I have been levelling a hunter alt (horde side) and it's given me some ideas for a Hunter's Beginners Guide. So stay tuned ;-)Zaphirehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14891018290192754318noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3241375976945796858.post-47895500944312320092012-02-04T00:37:00.011+01:002012-07-07T01:12:00.565+02:00"Not with that attitude you can't!"

I am not that up to date/familiar with that many WoW machinimas, but every now and then one comes up that really makes me laugh. I recently stumbled on this video from Wowcrendor where he gives a rundown of class stereotypes. It's pretty good stuff - as are many of his other machinimas. If you wanna skip the palas and the shammies and want to go straight down to the hunter-part, forward to 1.44. And, if you will excuse me, I have a shield to ninja.

Being reasonably new to the hunter class and raiding, I think this is an awesome idea. The gap from doing hc dungeons to end game raids is pretty significant. A lot of the hunter guides out there are invaluable and awesome but can be quite tricky to get into as a newbie. It certainly took me a while to understand all the terms, the theorycrafting, rotations...

I am thinking of setting up some sort of hunter beginners guide, not fancy, just a simple guide for people who have just started levelling a hunter - and later a guide for freshly dinged 85 hunters. Any suggestions what to put in there? Let me know in the comment section!
Zaphirehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14891018290192754318noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3241375976945796858.post-4268916202227502102011-11-15T13:23:00.014+01:002011-11-15T13:40:10.674+01:00Two new cat models in 4.3Petopia reports two new pet models for 4.3.

Don't they look pretty?

This is good news for those who like the hunched cat models - and by the looks of it they will have shiny fur like Pogeyan - which I think looks incredibly cool in white!
Zaphirehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14891018290192754318noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3241375976945796858.post-24171043362405197242011-10-22T20:42:00.015+02:002012-07-09T12:50:29.088+02:00A good day for huntersThanks to a very kind and generous guildie, I have been able to follow some of the things going on at Blizz Con via livestream (just a little, since the Blizz Con time shedule isn't very European time-zone friendly). The new info they released on the class and talent changes, the new areas and of course the introduction of the Pandaren is very exciting, but there is one thing in paticular that absolutely warms my heart.

There will be no more minimum range!

This also means that melee weapons for hunters will be a thing of the past, and with that, it is likely that spells like Raptor Strike and Wing Clip will be gone too. Hunters will be the only class able to wield bows and guns. We will also get (customizable) quivers on our backs, though they will probably be cosmetic only. Awesome!

In other news, the new talent system looks very promising; if anything, a lot more "clean" than it is now. You can check out all the talent screenshots - and breakdown - here.

In the same spirit, pets will now no longer belong to a specfic pet family. This is great - I can imagine a whole lot of hunters bringing their Terrorpenes for raids! I wonder if this also means they will make spirit beasts and exotic pets available to all hunter specs- though I don't think that's very likely. Ah well, a hunter can dream ;-)

As Blizz Con furthers, I am sure we will be let in with more hunter and non-hunter related information. Until that time, I know I will be keeping a close eye on the livestream...Zaphirehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14891018290192754318noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3241375976945796858.post-65713498210947276202011-10-22T16:18:00.014+02:002012-07-09T12:49:58.334+02:00Pandas are coming to townPandas are coming to Azeroth and they will be a playable race...!

What do you guys think?

Personally, I am warming up to the idea of playable pandas. I mean, yes it all sounds very Kung Fu Panda, but we have fighting cows and wolves too, so why not? The trailer looks promising, Pandaria with its oriental feel and pagodes looks amazing. I also like the fact that the player will be able to pick Horde or Alliance after the introductory quest chain since the Pandaren aren’t racially affiliated with any faction. Blizz, go do this for other races too! Bring goblins to the Alliance!

Pandaren will be able to be hunters. So far, we don’t know what the starter pet for a Pandaren hunter will be. (A baby panda maybe? I am definitely rooting for a panda bear model as a hunter pet...!)

Here are some Pandaria screenshots for a taster of what's to come:

I am Juneper, a Draenei hunter orignally from the Trollbane EU server. I started playing during the Wrath expansion as a mage, but I quickly found out that hunters are way cooler. Just before Cata hit I started out as hunter, and June was born! My main activities in WoW include raiding both 10 and 25 man raids, getting honor points for transmog gear, changing factions (three times), and spending way too much time tracking rares.
